Every person in your organisation and your network knows something valuable.
Too often we stay in our own lanes, head down in our own area of responsibility. With every project, every strategy, so much value goes unexplored.
What do they know?
Clients know what works best for them.
Your frontline staff notice the gaps and the wins.
Partners see opportunities.
Board members bring knowledge from the wider world.
The answer is to open up the circle.
Your organisation goes from being one voice to the voice of many.
That’s your First-Person Advantage. The intelligence that comes from the people who know your work best — shared, understood, and put to work.

Inviting more voices is a win-win.
When people are invited to contribute their insights to support the work and the goals you share, it reminds them how valuable their experience is. It builds confidence and a willingness to keep contributing.
We’ve developed best practice processes to make sure it stays that way — ethical, protective of individuals, and effective risk management for the organisation.
The trick is to gather so others feel useful, not used.
The difference spoken language makes.
A child protection worker once told Moya:
“We were all sitting there saying we’ve all seen a lot. And then in walks this child who has experienced something so horrific and there’s no precedent for knowing what comes next. It’s been such a strong reminder that kids don’t fit in boxes.”
That’s real first-person language: honest, believable and a spark for sharing perspectives.
In third-person organisational language, that same insight becomes:
“Experienced child protection workers can encounter cases that fall outside established frameworks, highlighting the importance of flexible, child-centred approaches to complex trauma.”
Accurate. Forgettable. Nobody reads it and thinks: that’s us. And no-one’s sharing back.
First-Person Advantage in practice.
“This has been a heartwarming and illuminating process. We’ve discovered many of the things we are most proud of today reflect the same impulses, ambitions and values that created AND in the very beginning.”

— Suzanne Colbert AM, CEO, Australian Network on Disability
Suzanne Colbert AM had spent twenty years as CEO of the Australian Network on Disability. She saw the organisation grow from five people on a mission to an organisation that touched 1.7 million Australian workers. She asked Moya to capture their origin story before she stepped down.
Suzanne was one of those 5 founders herself but as the stories flowed, new lights went on. It was clear that the original energy was still there, the DNA was intact and AND would use it to drive the next stage of a remarkable journey.
What began as a legacy project grew into brand understanding and repositioning. The origin intelligence informed a broader story-gathering process across current staff, members and partners. It shaped services, clarified direction, and became the centrepiece of AND’s 20th anniversary – a special insert to Suzanne’s final annual report. Every new generation of staff, every new member organisation and supporter could now read that story and say: ‘I recognise us! This is who we are. This is what we’re still capable of.’
Four Stages. Four Tools.
